The Peter Sagan Show

7 March 2016

The official cycling season has just started and he has already been present on our screens multiptle times. Yes, of course I’m talking about Peter Sagan. He’s the current World Champion and is easily recognised in his rainbow jersey. He started in the Tour de San Luis, tested his legs a bit and then he became 2nd in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, 7th in Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne and 4th in Strade Bianche. Pretty impressive, but he didn’t win. Some say the rainbow jersey is cursed and that the rider who wears it will never win a race in it. But what about Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Armitstead? She’s the current Women’s World Champion, started in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Strade Bianche – her first races of the season – and won them both. Incredible? Yes, and it shows that there’s no curse.

There’s no doubt about it that Peter Sagan will win a race this year. It will happen sooner rather than later because the man is unstoppable. He obviously trains a lot and gives everything for this beloved sport. But he also knows how to relax. In the off-season, he married his love Katarina Smolkova in his home country of Slovakia and the wedding was quite a show. Sagan even rode a bike across a tight rope! We all know he is quite a performer on the bike, but this was outstanding.

And when you think it cannot get any crazier, Sagan knows how to surprise the cycling community once more. On the final day of 2015, he put a video online in which he transforms to Danny Zuko (John Travolta) from the famous movie Grease. His wife Katarina plays the role of Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) and together they imitate the part of the movie where they sing the popular song ‘You’re The One That I Want’. And I bet Peter’s got plenty more in store for us this season. We just have to wait for another episode of ‘The Peter Sagan Show’.
