Dutch Road Championships 2013 / 22 June / U23 Men

Just like last year, the Dutch Championships were held in Kerkrade. On Saturday, the U23 Men were the first to start at nine o’clock in the morning. They had to face a distance of 158,4 kilometres, which meant that they had to ride the course 18 times. This year, 154 riders participated in the race and 35 of them finished. As usual, the Rabobank Development Team provided the most riders for the race, closely followed by the LST Croford Cycling Team.

Dylan van Baarle and Mike Teunissen (RB3) animated the final part of the race. They were able to stay away and in the end van Baarle proved to be the strongest of the two talents. Bob Schoonbroodt (RIJ) was the 4th rider who crossed the finish line for the second year in a row. The 22-year-old rider showed once again that he can perform well in his home area Limburg.

Dylan van Baarle (RB3) talked to the media after the finish. He did not only win the road race, but also managed to win the individual time trial for riders under 23 earlier on. In May, he also managed to win the Olympia’s Tour for the second year in a row. On top of that, he has also won the Internationale Thüringen-Rundfahrt U23, the Ster van Zwolle, and the Rabobank Dorpenomloop Rucphen. As a result of this, the talented rider from the Rabobank Development Team has recently signed a contract with Garmin-Sharp for 2014 and 2015.

Mike Teunissen from the Rabobank Development Team became second. The 20-year-old was also second in the Arno Wallaard Memorial earlier this year. The number three of the day, Joey van Rhee, was very happy with his podium place. Van Rhee rides for the Metec Continental Cyclingteam and it was the first podium result for the 20-year-old rider from Nijverdal this year.
