Nacht van Hengelo 2010 / 4 June / Hengelo
The most famous names of the evening: Tyler Farrar (GRM) and Ivan Basso (LIQ). Basso won the Giro d’Italia for the second time (he also won the Giro in 2006) and got to take the pink jersey (Maglia Rosa) home.
There were a lot of Rabobank riders who had been in the Giro d’Italia: Tom Stamsnijder (picture), Steven Kruijswijk and Jos van Emden. Local hero Joost Posthuma, who also rides for the Raboteam, got to ride with his talented cousin Jelle Posthuma (Cyclingteam Jo Piels). Continental team riders Coen Vermeltfoort and Ramon Sinkeldam made the peloton look even more orange.
Wouter Mol, Bobbie Traksel and Arnoud van Groen were the riders from Vacansoleil. Other famous names were Kenny van Hummel, Albert Timmer, Tom Veelers and Robin Chaigneau (all Skil-Shimano riders), Servais Knaven, Wim Stroetinga and Roy Sentjens (all Milram) and Theo Bos (Cervélo).
The riders had to cycle 90 kilometres on a short course (in this case through the centre of Hengelo). This year’s winner was Tyler Farrar, closely followed by Kenny van Hummel and Ivan Basso. You can find more info on cycling criteriums here or go to www.nachtvanhengelo.nl.
